Here is the problem:
There is no problem, you are the problem.
Here is my solution:
What you are seeing on modern Yaesu radios (FTDX101D) spectrum scope is so much faster and responsive than any Icom radio, it upsets your brain. ICOM has trained your mind to expect an unresponsive, averaged, low resolution, slow, piece of garbage that is only suitable for SSB use. You need to change your thinking to believing you have been given an upgrade but you are too daft to realise.
Here is the proof:
If you are a CW operator you will enjoy being able to visually decode CW on the Yaesu spectrum scope....try that with your ICOM garbage!
Also if ICOM truly had the performance to match the responsiveness of Yaesu's spectrum scope, but chose to average it to make it more "beautiful", why don't they have an "averaging off" button to allow YOU to decide which to use.
While we are here, please don't think I condone the Yaesu 3D spectrum scope. Those that think that puppy is useful might as well go buy an ICOM.
Just sayin
